PRIVATE SPA

Who doesn’t dream of a space to relax and contemplate beautiful things, a place where aesthetics is allowed to prevail over functionality?

A young couple bought another apartment on the floor and connected it to their apartment to make a rest zone.

The project is in an old building from the middle of the last century on one of the upper floors. The realization of the client’s wishes required a major redevelopment with the reinforcement of the building’s load-bearing structures and floor slabs. Construction works and approvals took almost 2.5 years.

On an area of 59 m2 it was possible to place a common recreation area with a bathroom and a shower cabin, an infrared sauna and a hallway. The entire floor surface is lined with natural travertine in antique finish, on which it is pleasant to walk barefoot thanks to the pre-installed electric floor heating. On the walls and ceiling are dense noble shades of English paint Little Green and stucco Orac Decor. The abundance of decorative light, dense textiles, languid shades and greenery makes the setting chamber-like and romantic.

bathroom and shower room

It was not the goal to make the toilet private and closed: it was enough to limit to spectacular and at the same time laconic translucent partitions Rimadesio. Behind them hides the sanitary area and the shower room.

Modestly but brightly all the laurels are taken by the sink from the factory Antonio Lupi. It seems to grow out of the wall and disappear in it again, leaving only a halo of inner light. The wall with the washbasin has a rounded shape in the end and illuminates both the shower area and the bathroom from above and below. The faucets and shower system of Italian manufacturer Gessi in aged brass elegantly stand out against the background of Marble Confusion Extra. In the bathroom, a smart toilet from the Japanese factory ToTo is designed.

COMMON AREA

The centerpiece of the common area is a cot, elevated several steps above the general floor level. Inside of it is a mattress, and in its headboard is an oasis with plants and a waterfall. Above the couch hangs the Gold Moon Chandelier from the factory Catellani & Smith, which gives stunning shadows on the ceiling due to the unusual shape of hanging elements. Luci d’Oro was developed after reflecting on the color of light: the golden light of the sun and fire; warm light, in which the concept of refraction began to take shape in Enzo Catellani’s mind and which he used later in other creations. Over the cot hangs a cube of Marble Salvadore Dali, which can be viewed at length thanks to its picturesque pattern. Under the stone box is a bio-fireplace, which is always better than any TV.

Behind the oasis is a place for an oversized YOROI armadillo-like chest of drawers from the authentic and daring Italian manufacturer DeCastelli. Like the hard metal sheets that identify the armour of a samurai, the scales on the skin of this piece define its appearance.‎ A dynamic shape, taking on the evocative strength of Art Deco furnishings, plays with the essentialism of an ellipse and modular repetition, balanced between minimalism and marvel.‎ With a natural oak frame covered in De Castelli metal, this secretaire opens unexpectedly: it conceals a roomy drawer, two more, while the sides contain curved doors.‎Secretaire with two lateral doors and three frontal drawers clad with metal scales on all visible sides.‎‎

The Archipelago Mirrors from the Driade factory hang above the dresser. Their unusual shape is dictated by the geometry of continents, which is especially relevant for customers who live in several countries at the same time. On the dresser are table lamps Atollo (Oluce) and VOX (Tato), also made in aged gold and brass with the addition of natural marble. Next to the dresser is the design icon Lounge chair & ottoman from Swiss company VITRA, designed in 1956. It is made in milky leather and an American walnut body.

No less significant in the world of design is the group of armchairs standing in front of the balcony. This model is the Archibald Armchair by Poltrona Frau. The high and low models playfully interact with each other, and their dialogue is complemented by the DeCastelli brass table and the Coupé Gold floor lamp from the factory Oluce, all against the background of a panel by Armani.

ENTRANCE HALL

At first glance an entrance hall seems modest, but the materials and components for it are also selected high-quality and interesting in design. The floor Foglie d’oro is in the shape of pentahedrons made of American walnut. On the ceiling there is a pair of NOTREDAME lamps from the Karman factory, on the wall there is an Aromas del Campo wall lamps from TanTan. The hallway is also used by the owners as a mini-gym, in which there is an exercise bike. This area also has an ash veneer cabinet, which, in addition to its storage function, conceals an emergency entrance door, leading to the elevator lobby from this apartment.

SAUNA

An infrared sauna is the only possible option for this apartment given the technical specifications of the building. Thanks to the window, which is located in the sauna itself, a lot of light from the window gets inside, but if you want privacy, the Smart Glass can be dulled by pushing a button.
